General Information

Gyros offers 4 sessions during our operating season that commences July 1 and ends June 30.

The program sessions are Summer Session, Fall Session, Winter Session and Spring Session

Summer Session: July - September
Fall Session: September - December
Winter Session: January - Mid March

Gym Policies

  • Gymnastics equipment is only to be used under the supervision of a coach.
  • Food and hot drinks are not to be consumed in the gym or change rooms.
  • Only coaches and participants may enter the gym; viewing areas are provided for parents and other family members.
  • We are a "nut-free environment". Any food products made out of, or containing nuts, should not be brought into the facility.
  • Make up classes are not available for missed classes.
  • There will be a charge on all NSF cheques.
  • All fees must be paid with registration. Placement is not final until full payment is received.
  • An annual Gymnastics Ontario Registration and insurance fee per child is applicable for all members. This annual fee is valid from July 1 to June 30 of the following year.
  • The second child of a family registered in a program during the same serssion will receive a 10% discount for the lowest fee.
  • Additional children of the same family registered in a program during the same session will also receive a 10% discount from the next lowest fee.
  • A child registered for a second class in the same session will receive a 10% discount from the lowest fee.
  • Class times and class age ranges offered may be subject to change based on enrolment, coach availability and gym rotational schedule requirements.
  • Coaches assigned to classes may be subject to change based on availability, enrolment and gym program requirements

 

What to Wear

  • Children should be dressed comfortably.
  • Clothing should allow the child to have full movement when doing the activity.
  • Gym attire for girls is shorts and t-shirt or leotard.
  • Gym attire for boys is shorts and t-shirt.
  • Bare feet is required for all children or Gymnastic footwear may also be used
  • Long hair should be tied back and all jewellery should be removed

 

Parent & Tot – 45 min (18 months to 3 years)

Our Parent & Tot class introduces children to gymnastics under the supervision of a certified coach with the assistance of their parent who participates in various gym activities. The safe, controlled class offers structure and fun programs that begin the development of coordination, balance, strength, flexibility and basic gymnastics skills. The development of these skills will enhance your child's self-confidence and their social skills.

3 to 4 years  - 1 hour
4 to 5 years – 1 hour
5 to 6 years – 1 hour

These classes provide a fun and safe environment for the children to progressively help develop co-ordination, strength and flexibility. These structured programs incorporate basic gymnastic skills while focusing on fundamental and dominant movement patterns. Skills will be acquired on vault, bars, beam, floor and trampoline as children will progress through the Kindergym level system. Coaches will guide the children's development at their own pace.
Parents do not participate in the warm-up or class but are welcome to view the class from our viewing area

Our coaches will guide recreational athletes in developing basic as well as more advanced gymnastics skills on all of the gymnastics events during the 1.5 hour class.  Coaches will steer athletes to develop at their own pace while having fun and developing strength, coordination and overall fitness. Children will progressively advance through the Cangym Level Program

Advanced Recreational Program

All programs listed below require an assessment in order to be accepted into the program.


Junior Achievement: 4 to 6 years - 2 hours


This class is intended to focus on strength, flexibility and basic gymnastic skills in a challenging, rewarding, and fun atmosphere.

Achievement: 7 years and up - 2.5 hours


This program is intended for the child who would like and has the skills and abilities for something a little more challenging than the general recreational classes. The achievement class can be a preparation and possible stepping stone to the Interclub competitive program

ACRO Program: Ages 5 & up – 1 hour

Children will participate in learning acro skills, strengthening skills and trampoline.

Beginner participants will focus on front roll, back roll, handstand bridge, back bend, bridge kick over, cartwheels.

Intermediate participants will focus on back walkovers, front walkovers, cartwheels, one armed cartwheels and begin to learn round offs.

Advanced participants will focus on round offs, aerials, back handsprings and round off back handsprings.

Competitive Program

All programs listed below require an assessment in order to be accepted into the program.


Beginner: 5 to 7 years - 6 hours per week

Training at this level continues to focus on basic preparation. There is particular emphasis on flexibility, conditioning, extensive tumbling practice, dance preparation, bar work, beam and trampoline. Beginner Competitive do not compete.


Interclub Levels 2-5: 7 years and up - 8-12 hours per week


Athletes develop skills and routines on four events of artistic gymnastics (vault, bars, beam & floor) in preparation for Invitational meets. Inter-Club athletes will enter three meets between January and June. Athletes find the Interclub program to be a good, rewarding experience.


Pre-Provincial / Pre-Competitive: 7 & 8 years - 8-16 hours per week


This program prepares the athlete for competition. The demands and requirements for skill development are a little higher and have more intensity. The major focus of the program is preparation for the Provincial level. Gymnasts may enter one Invitational meet, generally towards the end of the season in June, at the discretion of the Women's Head Coach.


Provincial Levels 5-9: 9 & up - 16 hours per week

Athletes will be prepared in all areas of gymnastics with the major goal of achieving a high standard of performance. Commitment is a key ingredient to success. The best possible coaching and equipment is provided to achieve success. This program offers 3 Provincial Qualifiers and Provincial Championships.

Field Trips

Gyros gymnastics welcomes schools, community centers and specialty day camps to our gymnastics facility for fun, enjoyable physical activity. Students will be introduced to balance, strength, co-ordination and basic gymnastics skills in a learning environment as they participate on the vault, bars, balance beam, floor, trampoline and tumble track circuits. We can tailor the timing and instruction of your visit to suit your requirements.
